Fancy getting your hands on a new tablet as well as a phone? Virgin Mobile is giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7” with the Samsung Galaxy A8 and A3 handsets.

You can get a Samsung Galaxy A8 with a Tab A 7" tablet from £22 a month on a three-year plan. This lowest price gets you 1GB of data and 1,000 minutes (all plans come with unlimited texts), but Virgin also has an couple of offers on bigger tariffs – £27 a month will currently bag you 8GB to play with as opposed to the usual 4GB, while a tenner has been knocked off the price of the 40GB plan, taking it down to £31 a month.

Neither the phone nor the tablet are top of the range but these days even mid-range devices come with pretty impressive features and from a quick glance most people would find it impossible to tell the difference between these and the very latest models.

The Samsung Galaxy A8 has a 5.6-inch screen, a 16 megapixel camera on the back and an 8MP one on the front, 32GB of internal memory (that can be expanded to 400GB with the addition of a microSD card) and runs on the Android operating system so you’ll be spoilt for choice app-wise thanks to the Google Play store.

You can also get a free Tab A 7" with the Samsung Galaxy A3 right now. This is more of a basic model than the A8 but looks like a classic Samsung phone and still has many of the same features. Again prices start at £22 a month for a 1GB plan but over two years as opposed to three.

The perfect tablet for the whole family

Virgin says the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7” is perfect for the whole family to use, not least because it allows you to create individual user profiles that can be customised to suit every member of the family. There’s even an in-built Kids Mode that parents can customise just to make sure their little ones are exploring the online world safely.

Like the phone, it has 32GB of internal memory but you can expand this up to 256GB with the use of a microSD memory card. It also has a long-lasting battery so you can use it to keep the kids entertained on long car journeys or just happily go more than a day without charging it.

If you already get your TV from Virgin Media and have a TiVo box at home, you’ll find new ways to make the most of it by downloading the Virgin TV Anywhere app onto your tablet. This will allow you to set recordings (and delete them quicker than you can with the remote), manage your TiVo and even search TV listings on the go.

You can’t put a SIM in the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7” – you’ll have to rely on wi-fi in order to get online – and only comes in black.
