How BT TV packages work

BT TV can only be taken in conjunction with a BT broadband deal - it is not available as a standalone package. A fibre broadband service allows you to enjoy the various catch-up and on demand services such as BBC iPlayer and ITV Player. BT offers two Infinity speeds to choose from: Infinity 1, which is up to 52Mbps, and Infinity 2, which is up to 76Mbps. For most housesholds with several devices, unlimited BT Infinity 1 is ideal for streaming and downloading films and TV without any problem. If you have a larger household, you may want to consider the faster Infinity 2 package

If you can't get BT Infinity where you live, BT offers BT TV Essential, which is similar to the Entertainment Starter package but is only availible to BT broadband customers. TV Essential comes with a YouView+ box, allowing you to record up to 300 hours of TV, 80 TV channels, and the option of adding BT Sport for free. This package will only become available to you once you've entered your postcode on BT's website and confirmed that BT Infinity is not available at your address.

BT Sport can be added for free with all TV packages

Sports fans can add BT Sport to any TV package for free. The BT Sport Pack gives you all four BT Sport channels. This means you can enjoy 42 live matches from the Premier League and FA Cup, all 351 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League matches, plus action from the European Rugby Champions Cup, Ultimate Fighting Championship and live MotoGP races.

Plus, uniquely to BT, you can choose to watch football in Ultra High Definition by subscribing to the Total Entertainment package, which comes with the BT Sport 4K UHD channel. Just remember you will need a UHD TV in order to enjoy the super sharp picture.

You can add Sky Cinema and Sky Sports

In addition to the standard channels on offer with each package, you can tailor your own preferences to also include Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Extra, Sky Cinema, Kids channels, Music channels and Netflix, all of which come with an extra monthly fee. Netflix requires a separate subscription but is accessible through the BT YouView box.

What you don't get with BT TV

The one area where BT really falls down is in Sky channels. Although you can pay extra to receive Sky Cinema or Sky Sports, the major Sky entertainment channels, including Sky 1, Sky 2 and Sky Living are not available with BT TV. Sky Atlantic is also unavailable – it is exclusive to Sky and Now TV. It's also worth remembering for any Walking Dead fans that Fox and Fox HD are no longer available through BT TV.
