The area was home to one of the largest lakes in the country until 1851, when extensive draining took place around Whittlesey Mere. Today, Whittlesey is the site of a number of large wind turbines, which already provide power for the nearby McCains Chips centre. To boost the town's digital infrastructure, faster broadband investment is another key target.

A well-preserved market centre

The Buttercross is Whittlesey's traditional trading centre; the site survived demolition in the 19th century thanks to a local trader, who helped reconstruct the building's roof to save it from irreversible disrepair. The attractive St Mary's Church is one of the town's major landmarks, part of which is more than 500 years old.

Now, the town hosts a number of logistics firms near Station Road and Benwick Road, which include Decker Bus and GCE Hire Fleet, as well as J M transport and Electric Cable Co towards the west of the town centre. To maximise their operational efficiency and expand, these companies all need reliable broadband services to compete in the highly competitive national and global markets.

In regards to internet connections, Whittlesey is generally performing well. Connections in and around West End, Peterborough Road and Eastrea Road vary from around 7Mbps to 20Mbps, with services around East Delph and Church Street achieving similar values.

However, hopefully there will be a trend towards even faster broadband in Whittlesey over the next couple of years.
