Virgin Media is offering a free tablet with the Samsung Galaxy J3

Tuesday, November 14th 2017 by Oprah Flash

Like it or not we’re in the run up to Christmas and mobile providers like EE and O2 are adding extra tech to sweeten some of their phone deals.

Virgin Media is no exception and has added a free Alcatel Pixi 4 7” wi-fi Android tablet to its Samsung Galaxy J3 pay monthly deals.

For £15 a month you can get 5GB of data with 1,500 minutes and unlimited texts on a 24 month Freestyle contract. The middle package costs £19 a month for 5GB of data, 2,500 minutes and unlimited texts. If you’re looking for more data you can choose the £22 package with 40GB of data, 5,000 minutes and unlimited texts.

With Virgin Mobile’s tariff you can use WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Twitter without eating into your data allowance. The provider also offers a Data Rollover feature. Any data you don’t use will be rolled over and added to the next month’s data allowance.

You’ll have the flexibility to change your 4G plan each month. If one month you find you need more minutes or data you can contact Virgin and move up to the next package

Likewise if you feel you’re not making the most out of your allowance the provider has said it will allow you to move down to a package that best suits your usage.

Virgin Mobile operates on EE’s network and says it provides 99% of the UK with 4G coverage. To get the phone without the tablet you’ll pay £1 less each month.

Samsung Galaxy J3

The Samsung Galaxy J3 is a get-the-job-done smartphone that allows you to carry out the usual tasks, but does not compete with the might of the iPhone X or Samsung Galaxy S8.

It has an 8MP rear camera and 5MP front selfie camera which are both perfectly adequate for your everyday needs. Like all Samsung phones it runs on the Android operating system, which will let you download a wide range of apps from the Google Play Store.

It has an internal storage of 8GB which is pretty measly compared to other phones within the same price bracket. However, you can extend the storage with a SD card and free up some space by storing your images and music on the memory card.

Overall it’s a nice phone and perfect for you if you want a fully functioning phone and only need to carry out basic tasks. If you are stuck like glue to your phone and will be using it often or want to download a lot of apps this may not be the phone for you. As a mid-range phone with an RRP of £149.99 it is decent value for money.

Tablet

The Alcatel Pix 4 7” wi-fi Android tablet has been pitched as an entertainment-focused portable device. Just like the Samsung Galaxy J3 it runs on on the Android operating system with access to hundreds of thousands of apps and games.

It runs on a 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 quad-core processor so your games and videos will run fast and smoothly.

The 2MP camera on the front and 0.3MP on the back aren’t great in comparison to the phone it accompanies but will still allow you to make video calls and take pictures.

The exterior is also splash and dust resistant so you can rest easy knowing your child won’t easily wreck it while they are watching their favourite show.

If you have Virgin Media TV with TiVo you can download the app onto the tablet and watch up to 120 channels or record shows in the tablet whenever you are connected to wi-fi.
