Details of 15 more communities to be included in the Superfast Lancashire programme have been unveiled.

High-speed fibre broadband is to be extended to a further 15 communities as part of the Superfast Lancashire initiative.

The technology will be made available to places including Belmont, Eccleston, Croston, Mawdesley, White Hills Business Park and Barnoldswick over the next few months.

Bolton by Bowland, West Bradford, Ribchester, Shawforth, Whitworth, Knott End, Hambleton, Preesall and St Michaels are also being included in the rollout.

Sean Serridge, Champion for Digital Inclusion at Lancashire County Council, believes this puts the authority on course to achieve its target of providing 97 per cent high-speed broadband coverage in Lancashire by the end of 2015.

“Faster fibre broadband is hugely important for the county both economically and socially," he commented.

"There can be few areas of modern life which are not touched in some way by broadband connectivity."

BT, which is partnering Lancashire County Council in the Superfast Lancashire programme, added that approximately 480,000 residential and commercial properties in the county can now access high-speed fibre broadband.

Director for Next Generation Access for the North of the UK Steve Edwards said this is producing immediately noticeable results for those who are using the technology.
