3 Mobile 'waiting until end of year' for 4G launch
3 Mobile has announced that it will offer 4G services by the end of the year.
UK mobile network operator 3 Mobile will be rolling out its 4G services to customers in the final quarter of this year, the company's chief executive officer has confirmed.
Although many mobile internet providers have been rushing to offer high-speed browsing and streaming to customers, Dave Dyson revealed that 3 Mobile would hold fire and see how O2 and Vodafone position themselves in the sector before it acts.
Fellow mobile carrier EE launched the UK's first 4G mobile network last October, but Mr Dyson said he is relaxed about the move due to the good feedback that the network is receiving for its existing 3G services.
When it does move into the 4G market, 3 Mobile will promote handsets that will be compatible with both the new infrastructure and the current 3G HSPA+ network, while the chief executive also confirmed that 3 Mobile's customers will not need to pay a premium for the service.
"As we add the next wave of technology to our ultra-fast network, we've listened to our customers and thought long and hard about the right way to do it," Mr Dyson previously said.
