Amazon renews Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan for a second series, months ahead of season 1 debut
Still eagerly awaiting the premiere of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan in August? Well, while you wait we have some news that might be music to your ears, Amazon has given the thumbs up to the production of season two.
Season one has not been released yet, you’ve got until 31 August before you can start streaming, but the reaction and anticipation has been monumental among American audiences which has pushed Amazon to start the ball rolling on season two.
In the Amazon Prime Original, protagonist Jack Ryan starts as an aspiring CIA agent. One day he's doing his run-of-the-mill desk job, the next he’s on a mission in the Middle East taking on a terrorist wreaking havoc against the United States and its allies. Other cast members include Abbie Cornish and Wendell Pierce.
Played by John Krasinski, the character has appeared in several of Clancy’s novels and their film adaptations. After promoting the trailer at the Super Bowl, Amazon noticed a 400% increase in Prime members adding Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan on their watchlist.
In season two, there’ll be eight episodes in which we’ll see Jack Ryan fighting the ‘forces in power’ in South America. We don’t know when this will hit screens yet, as production starts this summer.
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said: “With so much early anticipation for Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan from our customers and personally having the pleasure to preview the exhilarating, action-packed first season, we are excited to greenlight a second season of the series months ahead of its debut. The new season will take our unexpected hero to a new, exciting and dangerous world.”
Amy Powell, president of Paramount Television, said: “From day one we only had one actor on our casting board for this series – John Krasinski.
“We are so excited that he is our Jack Ryan and we get to make another season with this incredibly talented team. We have been blown away by what our whole team has delivered for season one and we can’t wait for everyone to see it this summer.”
