Amazon to launch Echo Dot kids edition
There is a bank holiday approaching (7 May) and while most of us get the day off, you’re probably going to need a way to keep the kids occupied for a bit while you try and soak up some of the sun.
Amazon has released three new products that will do exactly that, although for the moment they're only available in the good ol' US of A. The new offerings include Amazon FreeTime on Alexa, Amazon FreeTime Unlimited on Alexa, and an Echo Dot Kids Edition.
Dave Limp, senior vice president, Amazon Devices and Services, said: “Tens of millions of households already use Alexa, and we’re excited to introduce an entirely new way for kids to have fun and learn with Alexa.
“With Echo Dot Kids Edition and FreeTime on Alexa, parents can have peace of mind knowing their kids are getting age-appropriate content, while they listen to music, ask questions, enjoy Audible books, use Alexa skills, and more. We can’t wait for parents and kids to try this out.”
The push to create the new kid-friendly products was driven by the success of the Amazon Fire Kids Edition tablets which are the top-selling tablet in the USA.
Alexa, play Frozen
Amazon FreeTime on Alexa is completely free if you already have one of Amazon’s Echo devices. This feature is designed to give parents some peace of mind, by allowing you to control what your kids can do when they are using the device. You can block explicit lyrics and Alexa will reward your child when they say please, after all manners doesn’t cost a thing.
Alexa is down with the kids, she has age-appropriate suggestions at the ready, so when your child says, “Alexa, I’m bored” a knock-knock joke or song will pop up.
Amazon has bumped this up in the Freetime Unlimited on Alexa feature by adding a content subscription service, including more than 300 Audible books and iHeart Radio with kid-friendly playlists and radio station.
Let it go, Let it goooo
The Echo Dot Kids Edition is the device you already know and love combined with FreeTime parental controls built-in and one year free FreeTime Unlimited family plan. It’s set to hit the shelves on 9 May with a cost of 79.99 US Dollars. At the moment it will only retail in the USA but we will keep you posted as soon as it goes on sale here in the UK.
