Apple working on iPad Mini Air and 12.9-inch tablet, say supply chain sources
Apple is understood to be working on a slimmed-down iPad Mini Air, as well as a 12.9-inch model.
Apple has more than just the iPhone 6 in the pipeline, according to new reports from the company's Far East manufacturing partners.
Taiwan's United Daily News cited supply chain sources yesterday (22 July 2014) as saying that Apple has two new iPad models in the pipeline – a slimmed-down version of the iPad Mini and a new 12.9-inch tablet.
The new small-screen device will use the Air moniker, like the current flagship iPad, and is understood to be 30 per cent thinner than the 2013 iPad Mini. It will feature Apple's new A8 processor, which is expected to debut in the iPhone 6.
As for the 12.9-inch tablet, United Daily News quoted David Hsieh – Vice President of market research firm DisplaySearch – as saying the device should hit shelves in 2015, motivated by increased competition in the segment from Samsung and other vendors.
According to Apple's most recent financial results, also published yesterday, the company saw tablet sales fall from 14.6 million to 13.3 million year on year between April and June.
