Asda Mobile’s new Mega SIM-only bundle offers 12GB for £10 a month

Tuesday, October 31st 2017 by Oprah Flash

'Tis the season for Asda Mobile customers as the provider has announced its new Mega bundles go live tomorrow.

From Wednesday 1 November Asda Mobile is offering its customers 12GB of data with unlimited texts and calls in the SIM-only £10 bundle.

The original bundle used to offer 2GB, 600 minutes and unlimited texts and will revert back to this when the deal ends on Tuesday 9 January 2018. Each bundle lasts 30 days and will automatically renew unless customers choose to changes the bundle or cancel the package.

The mobile provider’s service is supplied by EE’s network. A feature Asda Mobile believes will appeal to new customers is the flexibility and “freedom” provided by having no contract. Customers are welcome to change their tariff at any time depending on their requirements.

Asda Mobile offers the option to ‘Test Drive’ its SIMs. Each one arrives with 10 minutes, 10 texts and 10MB of data preloaded onto the SIM so customers can test it before setting up a bundle. These are all available for the first 30 days.

How to get your hands on the deal

With Christmas just around the corner the Mega bundle is a good way to get in touch with family and friends. You’ll be able to make the most of the boosted data by posting your Christmas shenanigans on social media.

For a 30-day plan this deal is pretty impressive as many of the other providers only offer the top speeds once you have signed up to a 12-month contract.

Customers interested in Asda Mobile’s Mega bundle can order up to five free SIM's on the website or pop into an Asda store. Alternatively, Asda has made it even easier for customers to get the bundles by including a new texting feature.

Once you have your SIM you’ll need to top up your Asda Mobile account with enough credit to be able to send a text. You can then text ‘10’ to 2732 for the £10 bundle. To make the bundle renew automatically text ‘AUTO 10’ to the same number.

Other goodies from Asda Mobile

The provider’s cheapest SIM-only package is the £5 bundle that gives you 125 minutes, 2,000 texts, and 200MB of data. At the top end £20 will give you unlimited minutes and texts with 8GB of data.

If you’re somewhere in the middle and just need enough data to check your emails and Whatsapp then the £12 bundle may be your best bet. This includes 800 minutes, unlimited texts and 3GB of data allowance. Asda Mobile also offers Pay As You Go tariffs. These charge 8p a minute, 4p a text and 5p for every Megabit of data used.

SIM-only deals galore

Tesco Mobile

For £28, Tesco Mobile offers 5,000 minutes 5,000 texts and 12GB of “speedy 4G data”. With the £11 SIM-only plan you get 1GB of data, 500 minutes and 5,000 texts.

Both of these plans are on monthly contracts and Tesco mobile advertises that customers can use calls and texts when travelling in Europe with the Home from Home feature.

O2 offers the better data bundles on 12 month contracts however there are still good deals available on 30-day rolling contracts.

The top package for O2 is the 8GB tariff with unlimited texts and calls for £25 a month. For half the amount of data and the same unlimited texts and calls its £21 a month.

EE’s highest package on a 30-day plan is the 6GB data allowance with 1000, minutes and unlimited texts for £25.99 a month.

The cheapest SIM-only deal on a 30-day plan from EE is £13.99. This includes 250MB of data, 250 calls and unlimited texts. Just like O2, for higher data allowances you’ll have to sign up for a yearly contract. EE advertises network speeds of 60Mbps.

Three’s equivalent to Asda Mobile’s Mega bundle costs £23 a month. It provides 12GB of data with unlimited texts and calls.

For a fixed 12-month contract with the same tariff, the price comes down to £14 a month. Three’s All-you-can-eat data SIM-only deal costs £34 a month.

To get the equivalent 12GB of data from Giffgaff, customers will have to go with the Always On goodybag. This boasts unlimited texts and call with data that is ‘always on’ for £20 a month.

This sounds like an impressive deal but there are restrictions. After the first 9GB of data has been used up Giffgaff users may notice reduced data speeds from 8am to midnight. The £10 goodybag has 3GB of data , 500 minutes and unlimited texts. Calls and texts to other Giffgaff users are free of charge.
