Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff to star in Netflix sci-fi drama Another Life
Battlestar Galactica star Katee Sackhoff is to play an astronaut exploring alien intelligence in new Netflix sci-fi drama Another Life.
The 10-episode series will see Sackhoff’s character Niko Breckenridge lead her crew on a mission to find the genesis of an alien artifact. But as they investigate, they face what Netflix’s blurb describes as “unimaginable danger on what might very well be a one-way mission”.
We don’t know much else about the show yet, but hopefully it won’t be quite as derivative of Prometheus or Lost in Space as that description suggests.
Another Life is the creation of showrunner Aaron Martin, whose previous credits include Degrassi: The Next Generation, Being Erica and Slasher. It will be executive produced by Noreen Halpern, who also produced the Netflix series Alias Grace based on Margaret Atwood’s novel.
Sci-fi fans haven’t exactly been short of stuff to watch on Netflix in recent times, with Lost in Space, a reboot of the beloved 60s TV series, landing on the streaming service last month.
Sense8 returns for two-hour finale
The series, set 30 years in the future, follows the adventures of the Robinson family as they journey through space to make a new life for themselves but find themselves stranded on a strange planet.
Reviews have been mixed, it’s fair to say, but Netflix is showing no let-up in its bid to ramp up its original content offering.
This summer, fans of Sense8 (hopefully) get what they’ve been after when the Wachowski sisters’ creation returns for a two-hours finale – a year after the show was unceremoniously dumped by Netflix.
Despite apparently not gaining the sort of viewing figures Netflix was looking for, Sense8 proved it had managed to build a loyal following as news of its cancellation prompted petitions calling for it to be brought back.
And all power to the show’s fans, because it worked. Netflix confirmed it would return and creator Lana Wachowski wrote an open letter to fans professing that “improbably, unforeseeably, your love has brought Sense8 back to life”.
A movie-length episode premiering on 8 June promises to provide answers to the questions posed at the end of season two and should wrap things up nicely.
