BT exceeds 3.5m Wi-Fi hotspots
More than 3.5 million BT Wi-Fi hotspots are now available in the UK and Ireland.
BT has announced a new milestone for its Wi-Fi network, which now has more than 3.5 million hotspots across the UK and Ireland.
The telecoms giant's wireless internet infrastructure now includes more than 380,000 access points in London, 25,000 in Birmingham and Leeds, approximately 20,000 in Edinburgh, Manchester and Sheffield, and over 11,000 in Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff and Liverpool.
Just last month, BT revealed it has boosted its Wi-Fi network to almost 170,000 hotspots in Wales and nearly 320,000 in Scotland.
The news coincides with the launch of a new BlackBerry app from BT designed to make it easier for users to get online, following the release of similar downloads for Android and Apple smartphones.
BT's six million broadband customers can take advantage of free access to the company's Wi-Fi hotspots, which are located in homes, city centres, independent businesses and nationwide chains such as Hilton, Starbucks and Welcome Break service stations.
John Petter, consumer managing director at BT, commented: "Millions of BT broadband customers are enjoying free access to one of the biggest Wi-Fi networks in the world.
"Our free apps for the Apple, Android and now BlackBerry devices make getting online even easier."
