BT launches BT Plus combining fibre broadband with 4G
It’s been a busy day for BT. As well as changing the name of its packages and advertising average speeds, BT has launched a new product - BT Plus.
Following its announcement last week that it will be offering converged fibre broadband and 4G plans, The BT Plus plans are now available for you to sign up to.
As part of the new plan, you can now get faster speeds, and pay for your home broadband and mobile plan in one monthly bill. If it’s available in your area, you’ll be able to access BT’s Ultrafast fibre with an average speed of 300Mbps. At peak time (8pm-10pm), BT says you’re guaranteed to receive at least 100Mbps with this top package.
100Mbps speed guarantee
BT Plus also includes an upgrade to 4G and a double data allowance for your mobile plan. Much like Vodafone’s Ultimate Speed Guarantee, BT claims it will compensate you £20 if your download speeds fall below 100Mbps with the Ultrafast fibre 2.
Pete Oliver, managing director of BT Marketing and Sales said: “We know our customers’ lives revolve around being connected at home and on the go, and that it’s a challenge for families to manage all of their mobile and broadband services.
“We’re launching BT Plus to make it easier for our customers to get the best of fibre and 4G to stay connected wherever they are, and our Keep Connected Promise means that if ever there’s a problem with your broadband – we’ll use 4G to keep your family connected while we fix it.”
One of the most annoying things about broadband is losing connection, especially if you’re in the middle of streaming your favourite show. BT is hoping to put an end to this for its customers by introducing the Keep Connected Promise.
As part of the promise, if you have a problem with your home broadband, BT will switch on free, unlimited data on their BT mobiles within an hour and will also send a free 4G Wi-Fi Mini Hub to arrive the next day.
As well as shopping online and over the phone, you’ll soon be able to buy BT Plus bundles on the high street at EE retail stores across the UK.
While the bundles may be convenient, they are a little bit expensive. BT Plus prices start at £61.99 a month for Superfast Fibre Plus with an average download speed of 67Mbps and 500MB of mobile data and an extra 500MB of 4G data boost. This plan comes with unlimited minutes and texts for your phone.
At the top end of the mobile data scale is the BT Plus Superfast Fibre Plus with 40GB of mobile data for £89.99 a month.
There’s a £9.99 upfront cost and the contract will last 18 months.
