Rio Ferdinand's testimonial to be broadcast by BT Sport and streamed live by Streamworks

Next month's testimonial match for Rio Ferdinand will be screened by BT Sport and streamed around the world.

Rio Ferdinand's forthcoming testimonial match is set to be broadcast live by BT Sport and also streamed to millions of fans online, thanks to a new deal with the player and Streamworks International.

The celebratory clash between Ferdinand's Manchester United side and Spanish giants Sevilla will take place at Old Trafford on August 9th 2013, with BT predicting it could prove to be one of the most-watched testimonials ever due to the coverage provided by Streamworks' global streaming operation.

Viewers in up to 170 countries will be able to tune into the game via a dedicated website and, under the terms of the deal with BT, all football fans in the UK can access the stream free of charge.

Ferdinand's testimonial will be played just two days before the curtain rises on the domestic season, with United set to face FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield on August 11th.

Commenting on the arrangement, the former England defender said: "Manchester United is a unique club with fans in every corner of the globe, so I am delighted that my testimonial is going to be so widely available to all of the club's supporters in so many countries."
