BT to show premiere of The Terror for free on YouTube
Free BT TV? Ahhh that got your attention. In a UK-first, BT is letting you watch the first episode of AMC’s thriller series, The Terror, free of charge on YouTube.
You’ll have a 24-hour window on YouTube in which to watch the pilot episode for free, starting from 00:01 next Tuesday (24 April) morning. The series will open with a two-hour long double episode.
Season one of The Terror is made up of ten episodes, all exclusive to AMC on BT TV. The chilling tale is based on the true story of Sir John Franklin and the Royal Navy’s treacherous mission to the Arctic in search of the Northwest Passage.
The team must brave brutal, icy conditions. The Terror brings to light all that can go wrong when a group of men, desperate to survive, struggle not only with the elements, but with each other.
This will secure a spot in history as the first time a pay-TV provider has launched its content on YouTube for free before broadcasting it on TV. To help raise some hype for the new release, BT has been using a Facebook Chatbot to pose as Captain Sir John Franklin to recruit new fans as ‘crewmates’.
Tony Singh, content director at BT TV, said: “We’re hugely excited about The Terror, with a stellar British cast and absolutely thrilling production that will have you hopping from the edge of your seat to behind your sofa.
“Just like Sir John Franklin, BT likes to break new ground and we are delighted to partner with our friends at YouTube to take the first episode of The Terror to everyone in the UK.”
AMC’s latest thriller is produced by Ridley Scott, David Kajganich and Soo Hugh so we know we’re in for a treat. Starring some familiar faces with Jared Harris (The Crown, Mad Men) as Captain Francis Crozier; Tobias Menzies (Outlander) as Captain James Fitzjames and Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Sir John Franklin, get ready to hold on to the edge of your seat in suspense.
