BT to upgrade YouView TV service and offer world title fights with BoxNation

Monday, November 14th 2016 by Phil Wilkinson-Jones

BT has announced the new features being rolled out to its TV service in the New Year.

A free upgrade in the form of a download will give customers an improved user experience including easier access to on-demand content and a new on-screen TV guide.

And a new BT TV app will allow people to manage their recordings and stream live and on-demand programmes on mobile devices.

BT Sport subscribers will also get access to world class boxing from early 2017 as the BoxNation channel is made available for free.

At least 20 world, European, British and Commonwealth title fights will be shown on BT Sport channels.

BT has also announced the launch of Dolby Atmos sound on its BT Sport 4K UHD TV packages from January.

The broadcaster has already doubled the number of sporting events shown in Ultra HD and says the addition of Dolby Atmos sound will deliver “the most immersive experience possible, allowing customers to feel as if they are in the stadium”.

Delia Bushell, managing director of BT TV and BT Sport, said: “BT’s mission has always been to provide a high quality, premium TV service at prices that give unbeatable value to UK consumers.

“We will keep driving the pace of innovation in content, broadcasting and our customers’ experience.

“In 2017 we’re going to further shake up the market by releasing our new viewing experience across our TV guide and on demand, our new TV app and on our BT Sport channels, provided as a free upgrade for our customers.

“And our expanding list of sports rights will now include BoxNation and access to boxing world title bouts, all included in the price of the BT Sport subscription.

“We are taking the fight to our rivals in 2017 and we’ll be in great shape.”

Sky launched its next generation TV service, Sky Q, earlier this year and Virgin Media is expected to reveal its new 4K TiVo set top box at the end of the month.
