Vodafone invests in a faster 4G network in Cardiff
Vodafone has invested in a digital upgrade of its Welsh 4G network, bringing faster, more reliable connectivity to residents in and around Wales.
This upgrade brings Vodafone’s 4G coverage up to 99% of Cardiff’s population making it easier to carry out data-consuming tasks such as streaming, downloading and posting content on social media apps.
Scott Petty, Vodafone UK’s chief technology officer, said: “Mobile connectivity plays a vital role in supporting the local economy and keeping communities in touch across Cardiff.
“We have already invested significantly in our Welsh network and we are not stopping there. We will continue to work with communities, the Welsh government and local politicians to identify new sites so that our customers can enjoy our most reliable network in Wales.”
'Keeping communities in touch'
Included in this bout of network improvements is a revamp of the connectivity infrastructure within St David’s Shopping Centre. More than 100 concealed router boxes and antennae have been installed around the shopping complex, meaning you can still send WhatsApp messages, FaceTime and update your Snapchat story while you're stocking up on items for your summer wardrobe.
Vodafone has confirmed plans to continue rolling out further connectivity improvements in the rest of the centre, later this year.
Popular locations around the city will also benefit from Vodafone’s 4G network improvement project. Sporting arenas and event venues have had their network capacity increased so, even during busy events, you shouldn't be prevented from browsing the web.
Just over 100 miles to the east, Vodafone has also enhanced its 4G mobile network at Reading train station, and surrounding areas.
Outside of London, Reading station one of the UK's busiest rail hubs and welcomes about 20 million passengers a years. The 4G upgrades has allowed Vodafone customers to benefit from superfast data speeds and reliable voice coverage throughout.
Residents of nearby villages Tilehurst, Lower Earley, Sonning and Spencers Wood are also benefiting from improved mobile connectivity, as is the Green Park business park.
