Champions League final will be free to watch online, on YouTube and via BT Sport

Tuesday, May 15th 2018 by Phil Wilkinson-Jones

If you’re a Liverpool fan without a BT Sport subscription and have been wondering how you’re going to watch the Champions League final next week, stop worrying.

BT has confirmed that the game will be available to watch for free online, on the BT Sport app and on Virgin TV.

There is, of course, increased interest in this year’s final as Liverpool become the first English team since Chelsea in 2012 to take part in UEFA’s showpiece event.

They will take on the might of Real Madrid, the most successful team in the history of the Champions League, in Kiev’s Olympic Stadium on Saturday 26 May with Ronaldo and co looking to win the competition for the third year in a row.

Those with access to BT Sport will of course be able to watch the game on BT Sport – and in HD or even UHD if you have the right subscriptions and equipment. For everyone else, you’ll be able to watch online at btsport.com/final or in UHD on YouTube, via the BT Sport app or on Virgin channel 100.

'Top quality sport'

The same applies to the Europa League final, which takes place tomorrow night (Wednesday 16 May) and sees (look away now, Arsenal fans) Atletico Madrid take on Marseille in Lyon.

Pete Oliver, managing director of marketing and sales at BT Consumer, said: “To have Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final is fantastic.

“We have always said that we want to make top quality sport available to more people and so once again we will be making the UEFA Champions League Final and the UEFA Europa League Final available to all to watch online for free.

“This season we have shown some absolutely amazing games and have had some of our biggest games to date with our UEFA Champions League viewing figures up by 47% this season. The final is set to be a classic and we can’t wait to bring it to football fans across the UK.”

YouTube’s Head of Sport in EMEA, Tomos Grace, said: "Football is by far the most popular sport on YouTube and it doesn't get more premium than the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League finals.

“We are delighted to be partnering for the third year running with BT Sport to make these games available live to YouTube users across all of our platforms."
