Council launches digital TV channel

Friday, June 18th 2010 by Cable.co.uk

A local council in north-east Wales has launched a new digital TV channel which will be available to local people through Virgin Media and Sky set-top boxes.

People in Flintshire who subscribe to Virgin Media and Sky's digital TV bundles can now access a new channel, it has been revealed.

According to the Flintshire Chronicle, local people now have the chance to read up on the county council's activities via the service, which mirrors the range of content available on the local authority's website.

The channel has been funded by the Welsh Assembly Government as part of a year-long trial.

In a statement, Flintshire County Council said: "If you want to check out the opening times of your local leisure centre, report a broken street light or request a new recycling bin, the answer is in the palm of your hand."

Details of the launch have come after it was confirmed that Sky Sports News will only be available to those with digital TV subscriptions from later this year.

Sky is also introducing a high definition version of the channel.
