Customers left frustrated as EE runs out of Power Bar mobile chargers

Monday, April 20th 2015 by Phil Wilkinson-Jones

EE is taking a “pause” from its Power Bar promotion after receiving a million requests for its free mobile phone chargers in just four days.

The company made free Power Bars available to its customers last Thursday (16 April) but an unprecedented level of demand has left it short of supplies.

A number of stores ran out of stock at the weekend and EE is now busy redistributing its remaining Power Bars to fulfil requests that have already been made.

In a post on the community pages of its website, EE community team admin Miles said anyone who has already received a code via text will be able to collect a Power Bar.

But customers texting POWER to 365, and EE broadband customers texting JOIN to 60005, will now be advised to text back after 8am on 24 June.

'Power pause'

“We're delighted by the incredible response for Power Bars from our customers, with one million requests in just four days,” said Miles.

“We had five times more requests in the first 24 hours of the promotion than even the most popular smartphone launch in the UK and visits to store were up as much as 300% over the weekend.

“While we fulfil the requests we’ve already taken, we're taking a short ‘power pause’ to replenish stock. More Power Bars are on their way for our second release at the end of June.”

He added that for those who have already picked up their Power Bar, the in-store swap scheme – in which customers can swap their used bar for a fully-charged one – is up and running.

Disappointed EE customers unable to get hold of a Power Bar have taken to social media to vent their frustration.
