Eclipse Internet backs Cornish fibre optic broadband project

Wednesday, October 6th 2010 by Cable.co.uk

BT's plans to bring fibre optic broadband to the majority of Cornish properties have been welcomed by Eclipse Internet.

Eclipse Internet has claimed its customers are in a "prime position" to benefit from BT's fibre optic broadband work in Cornwall.

BT and Cornwall Council announced at the end of last month they will spend up to £132 million on connecting between 80 and 90 per cent of businesses and homes in the region to super-fast broadband by 2014.

Clodagh Murphy, director of internet service provider Eclipse, said the company is aware of the demands placed on small businesses, given that it started out in the south-west just 15 years ago.

She claimed efficient and fast internet connections are important to firms of this size, as the technology can help them to sustain and grow.

"This news is very exciting for our customers as it will bring new commerce opportunities to the region," Ms Murphy added.

Communications minister Ed Vaizey has also welcomed BT's plans, stating that the project will provide Cornwall with "one of the best broadband connections in the world".
