EE launches new mobile devices so you can create your own 'wifi hotspot'
EE has launched two new mobile broadband devices that allow customers to create their own personal wi-fi hotspot.
Both the 4GEE WiFi and the 4GEE WiFi Mini connect wi-fi-enabled devices to EE’s 4G mobile network.
The 4GEE WiFi is capable of connecting up to 10 devices simultaneously and comes with a 24-hour battery. It can also be used as a battery pack to charge other devices.
It is available on a range of pay monthly plans from £11 a month with a £49.99 upfront cost and on pay as you go £79.99.
The 4GEE WiFi Mini is 15% smaller than its big brother and is described by EE as “ideal for those who are always on the move”.
The smaller device is available on pay monthly deals starting at £11 a month, with a £19.99 upfront charge. You can also get it on pay as you go for £39.99.
Sharon Meadows, director of devices at EE, said: “As leaders in the UK 4G wi-fi market, we’re continually looking to launch the latest mobile broadband devices.
“Our new 4GEE WiFi hotspots are designed for those who want a compact device that makes the very most from our award winning network when on the move.”
Earlier this year, EE announced plans to extend its 4G network to cover 95% of the UK’s landmass by 2020.
The company’s 4G coverage currently stands at around 60%, but new investment will see 750 new masts and mobile sites built in an attempt to plug many of the UK’s outdoor notspots – where there is little or no signal.
'Notspots aren't tolerated'
It is thought the investment will take 4G coverage to 99.8% of the UK population.
EE’s chief executive Marc Allera said at the time: “For the average smartphone user, notspots aren’t tolerated and 2G doesn’t deliver what they need.
“Customers want 4G speeds everywhere they go, and mobile operators are too used to saying ‘no’ to new coverage.
“Today, I’m saying ‘yes’, with an ambition to go further than any operator has ever gone, and with the ultimate aim of covering the whole UK with 4G.”
EE also promised to answer 100% of its customer service calls in the UK by the end of this year, created hundreds of new jobs in the process.
