EE launches new simplified Essential, Max and SIM-only phone plans

Monday, February 12th 2018 by Mike Whitehead

UK’s largest mobile network provider, EE, has announced a simplified pricing structure for its Essential handset, Max and SIM-only plans.

Our mobile phones are an essential part of our daily lives. On average we check our phones 221 times a day – mostly to check the time (who needs watches?). Did you know the modern day smartphones we use have more power than the computers than aided the Apollo 11 moon landing?

Anything this important requires careful consideration when we look at changing. However, what we don’t need is to feel completely swamped by excessive, over-the-top details when upgrade time comes around or if we’re trying to make sense of our existing plans to figure out whether it was any good in the first place.

There’s an old saying – “too many cooks spoil the broth”. In a market positively teaming with offers for this, that and the other there comes a point when we, the consumer, will just naturally switch off. It looks as though EE, the biggest mobile provider in the country, has recognised this by announcing a much more simplified, streamlining of its major payment plans with a key focus on data allowance across its offering.

Free BT Sport

Whether a new or existing customer you can enjoy all the benefits of the fastest 4G network in the land with the added ability to personalise your plans by including BT Sport, for those of us with a keen eye on the Champions League knockout stages, or if you’re planning on some serious travelling in 2018, using your call, text and data allowances in selected international destinations.

EE’s Max Plan offers the fastest 4G+ speeds and data allowances of up to 60GB with access to BT Sport completely free throughout your contract term. You can also benefit from inclusive roaming access in Australia, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and the USA in addition to a range of EU countries. There is also an annual upgrade option on selected devices.

For a Max Plan pricing example, you could get a Samsung Galaxy S8 64GB for £53 a month and a £50 handset fee on a 24-month contract.

EE’s Essential Plan offers 4G speeds up to 60Mbps with unlimited calls and texts. You can also get BT Sport free for three months with inclusive roaming in 48 EU countries. The same Samsung Galaxy handset with 1GB of data would cost £44 a month with the same handset fee of £50.

If you’re looking for a SIM-only plan, all EE’s 12-month plans now include unlimited minutes and texts. Prices range from £11 per month for 250MB and go up to £35 for 40GB.

For either the Essential or SIM-only plans you can add-on features of the Max plan to suit your needs. For example, you can add ‘Go Faster’ for the fastest 4G speeds for £2 a month or add the BT Sport app for £5 a month, both on a rolling 30-day plan.
