EE launches ultrafast 'Fibre Max' broadband plans

Tuesday, June 26th 2018 by Phil Wilkinson-Jones

EE has launched two new fibre broadband plans offering ultrafast speeds – but not everyone will be able to sign up straight away as they rely a new technology that’s still being rolled out.

The new packages are called Fibre Max 1 and Fibre Max 2, and they offer average download speeds of 145Mbps and 300Mbps respectively, with average upload speeds of 28Mbps and 47Mbps.

Fibre Max 1 costs £42 a month and Fibre Max 2 is £47 a month. Both come on an 18-month contract and boost your mobile data by 20GB if you’re also an EE mobile customer.

But in order to get either of the new plans, you’ll need to live in an area in which Openreach has rolled out its Gfast broadband technology. This is the kit that allows providers like EE to deliver speeds in excess of 100Mbps over broadband connections made up a combination of fibre cables and copper telephone lines.

Openreach has deployed Gfast in 46 places around the UK and has this week revealed plans to reach a further 59 locations.

'Increasingly connected homes'

EE says you can find out if you’re eligible to get one of its Fibre Max plans by visiting one of its high street stores, on the phone or via its online broadband line checker.

Max Taylor, managing director of marketing at EE, said: “Our new fibre broadband plans are designed to support the demands of customers with increasingly connected homes and families.

“With the growth of 4K TV, smart home technology becoming more popular than ever, and more members of the family using the latest smartphones and tablets, we’re giving our customers the widest range of converged mobile and home broadband products in the UK, along with the best customer service, so they can enjoy the fastest speeds both in and out of the home.”
