EE named fastest and most reliable mobile network in London
EE has again been named the best-performing mobile operator in London.
The company has been ranked first by RootMetrics for its overall mobile network performance in the capital since April 2013.
RootMetrics’ latest tests put EE ahead of its rivals for reliability, speeds and text performance, and level with Three for call performance.
Testers clocked up 2,448 miles conducting 95,636 tests around London, both indoors and outdoors, at different times of day, using standard smartphones bought off the shelf.
The overall RootScores show how well each operator performed across all of the tasks.
EE scored 94.8, with Three in second place on 90.4. Vodafone scored 88.6 and O2 87.7.
EE came top for mobile internet performance and in the RootMetrics speed index, which brings together results from mobile internet and text tests.
EE recorded the fastest median download speed at 25.4 Mbps and the fastest upload speed at 19.3 Mbps. At these speeds, it would take two seconds to email a photo or download a song, and four seconds to upload a video.
Vodafone recorded a median download speed of 10.6Mbps and an upload speed of 6.9Mbps. O2’s median download speed was 8.7Mbps and upload 6.2Mbps.
Three recorded a median download speed of 7Mbps and upload of 2.9Mbps.
In the latest RootMetrics measurements of network reliability, EE ranked first outright with a RootScore of 96.1, followed by Three (94.7), Vodafone (90.2) and 02 (89.1).
EE completed its sweep of award wins among all performance categories, coming out top for text performance and tying with Three for call performance.
O2 fell back to joint-third from joint-first for call performance since the last RootMetrics round of testing in the second half of 2014, with its rate of blocked calls increasing from 1.2% to 2%.
Bill Moore, CEO and president of RootMetrics, said: “RootMetrics’ scouters drove thousands of miles to create the most comprehensive view of mobile performance in London ever delivered.
“It is clear that EE remains very strong in the UK’s capital city. The network won every category and has stayed ahead of the competition consistently over the past couple of years.
“With all networks now offering 4G services, consumers have never had more choice between networks and we hope this data will help inform their choices when selecting a network.”
In recent months, tests by RootMetrics has found EE to be the best-performing network at Arsenal Football Club’s Emirates Stadium and at three busy London airports, but both EE and venue sponsor O2 were beaten by Vodafone during tests at a sell-out Olly Murs gig at The O2 Arena.
