EE posts strongest ever quarter for 4G takeup
EE has posted financial results for the first quarter of 2014, showing 4G subscribers grew to 2.9 million between January and March.
EE added a record 889,000 new 4G customers in the three months ending March 2014, the operator announced this week.
In financial results posted yesterday (28 April), the company reported a total subscriber base of 2.9 million for the superfast mobile broadband network, with 50 per cent of new and renewing contract customers selecting the premium service tier.
Furthermore, one in four new subscribers opted for EE's exclusive double-speed 4GEE Extra plans.
"We are delivering strong, consistent commercial performance and continue to successfully create value through our award winning network," commented Chief Financial Officer Neal Milson.
The company expects to exceed six million 4G customers by the end of the year, more than doubling the network's existing subscriber base within the next three quarters.
Last week, EE reported having reached the milestone of rolling out 4G connectivity to 200 towns and cities in the UK, with Welsh seaside resort Rhyl being the latest addition to the network.
Commenting on the news, Chief Executive Olaf Swantee said the company was "proud to have been the driving force" that pushed the UK's mobile infrastructure "ahead of many other nations".
