EE signs up 318k 4G subscribers in five months
A few hundred thousand customers have signed up to EE's 4G services.
EE has reported strong take-up of 4G super-fast mobile broadband services in its latest financial results publication, covering the three months to March 31st 2013.
Five months after the network operator launched the UK's first 4G mobile proposition, the customer base has grown to 318,000, putting the company well on the way to hitting its target of exceeding one million 4G subscribers by the end of the year.
Over 1,600 medium and large organisations are taking advantage of 4G, which should be available to 70 per cent of the British population in around seven months' time.
Neal Milsom, chief financial officer of EE, said the results are broadly in line with the carrier's expectations. "We expect to strengthen our industry leadership position in the year ahead as the 4G rollout continues," he added.
New figures released by the operator also shed light on the way 4G customers are taking advantage of super-fast connectivity.
Web browsing and email are the most popular uses, with 36.49 per cent of subscribers accessing these services, followed by video downloading, uploading and streaming (25.59 per cent), and music and app downloading and streaming (14.87 per cent).
