Emma Willis tries her hand at midwifery in new series for W

Wednesday, April 11th 2018 by Oprah Flash

As well as presenting Big Brother and The Voice, Emma Willis is set to add midwifery to her CV as she fronts a new documentary series, Emma Willis: Delivering Babies.

The show is a UKTV Original and will screen on W, UKTV’s premium entertainment channel. The mum of two, will have to get used to the often busy and manic atmosphere of a maternity ward and train for three months as a Maternity Care Assistant.

With some strong One Born Every Minute vibes, the show will follow Emma working alongside nursing staff, doing four shifts a week, day and night. Although you may be used to her looking glamorous and mingling with celebrities on the screen, nursing is Emma’s soft spot as her mum worked in a hospital for more than 40 years and it’s a career path she once considered taking.

Emma Willis said: “If I wasn't doing my current job I know for a fact that I would have loved to work in a hospital. Blood, guts and the workings of the human body have always fascinated me.

“Both my parents worked in hospitals and so it's literally in my blood. I can't wait to dive right in and fully immerse myself in a busy maternity ward alongside the truly incredible midwives and nurses who work there day in day out.”

'Surprising and innovative'

During her three-month training, Emma will be a key member of the team and be there for every intimate moment of the birthing process. We’ll watch her be responsible for admitting prospective parents into the ward, taking blood pressure and assisting in theatre and the birthing suits.

Adam Collings, channel director for W, said: "W is always looking for surprising and innovative ideas and are delighted Emma will embark on this unique journey with us.

“I'm thrilled viewers will get to celebrate one of life's most precious moments, first-hand alongside the parents and healthcare professionals and as seen from Emma's perspective.”

We haven’t got an exact release date yet, but watch this space we’ll keep you posted as soon as we know. Emma Willis: Delivering Babies is produced by Firecracker Films and will premiere on W. Along with the new series you can also curl up in front of the telly and watch reality favourites such as Dr Christian Will See You Now, Celebrity Haunted Mansion and Rylan Clark-Neal's The Wave.

UKTV is the parent company and commercial broadcaster behind familiar household TV channels such as UKTV Play, Dave, W, Gold, Alibi, Yesterday, Drama, Really, Home, Eden and Good Food.

Although UKTV has a range of brands that appear on Freeview, you’ll need pay TV to watch it any of the shows screening on W. Either Sky, Virgin, BT or Talktalk will do. You can get a basic Sky TV Entertainment package for £20 a month or the Virgin Media Mix TV bundle for £22 a month.
