ESPN America HD launches on Sky's digital TV platform

Tuesday, June 22nd 2010 by Cable.co.uk

Subscribers to Sky's digital TV services can now access a high definition version of ESPN America, it has been announced.

Bundle provider Sky has added a new high definition (HD) channel to its digital TV service, it has been revealed.

ESPN America HD is now available for the first time in UK and Ireland thanks to the company, which also offers broadband and home phone services.

Available to all subscribers with a HD package, the service will offer customers access to a range of top US sports coverage, including the best action from baseball and ice hockey tournaments.

The offering takes the number of channels produced by ESPN available in the UK to five.

Lynne Frank, senior vice-president and managing director at ESPN, said: "Anybody who has experienced HD knows how much it adds to the viewing experience, and this launch is part of our dedication to bringing the very best in sports television to a wider audience."

It was recently confirmed by Sky that its flagship sports news channel will only be available to subscribers from later this year.

Sky Sports News is currently available for no charge on Freeview.
