Fast broadband drives bundle purchases, study shows

A high-speed web connection is the top priority for consumers choosing an internet, TV and phone bundle.

Fast broadband is the biggest motivating factor in consumers choosing a bundle of internet, digital TV and home phone services, new research has found.

A survey conducted by comparison website Cable.co.uk revealed more than a third of respondents consider high-speed broadband access to be the most important factor in selecting a triple-play package.

In contrast, approximately one-fifth are attracted to these deals by the better value they offer and less than 13 per cent cited a preference for dealing with a single provider.

Commenting on the results, Cable.co.uk CEO Paul France claimed consumer demand for faster broadband is on the rise.

This appears to be backed up by Virgin Media's latest financial results, which showed the number of households signed up to speeds of 20Mbps and above rose 40 per cent year on year in the fourth quarter of 2010.

"Given the current economic climate you'd expect value for money to be the consumer's top priority, but that's simply not the case," Mr France remarked.
