Film4 HD launching on Virgin Media later this month

A high definition version of Film4 is to be launched on Virgin Media's digital TV service later this month, it has been revealed.

Bundle provider Virgin Media is to offer access to a high definition (HD) version of Film4 to its digital TV subscribers later this month.

Film4 HD, which is set to broadcast a range of British films including Slumdog Millionaire alongside Hollywood blockbusters and top US independent features, is expected to be available from July 20th.

Digital Spy reports that Virgin Media is planning to offer Film4 HD at position 429 on its electronic programme guide, which will see it placed between both the original channel and Film4+1.

Commenting on the new channel in March, Virgin Media's executive director of digital entertainment Cindy Rose said: "Channel 4 has a great track record in delivering innovative and compelling content and we're delighted to bring some of their very best films and most popular programmes to our customers in stunning HD."

Virgin Media recently announced the addition of Five HD to its digital TV service.

The channel is available to its TV subscribers for no extra monthly fee.
