Filming starts on Sky One's A League of Their Own: European Roadtrip

Monday, May 14th 2018 by Phil Wilkinson-Jones

Jamie Redknapp and Freddie Flintoff have started filming a new A League of Their Own roadtrip series for Sky One.

Having already joined James Corden and Jack Whitehall for two previous series of A League of Their Own: US Roadtrip, Jamie and Freddie are this time heading off around Europe to take on some sporting – and some very silly – challenges.

In what is being described by Sky as a “pre-Brexit” tour of the continent, former England footballer Redknapp and Ashes-winning cricketer Flintoff will be joined by new teammates for each leg of the trip.

Guests include comedians Alan Carr and Josh Widdecombe, cricketer Kevin Pietersen, tennis stars Jamie Murray and Novak Djokovic, boxer Anthony Joshua, darts legend Raymond van Barneveld and cyclist Mark Cavendish.

The captains and their teams will be visiting some of Europe’s most iconic sporting events and taking on challenges including scoring a penalty at Milan’s San Siro stadium, stepping up to the oche at a Premier League darts tournament in Rotterdam, playing the tables in the casinos of Monaco and flower arranging in Holland.

Romesh Ranganathan joins ALOTO for series 11

Four hour-long episodes of the spin-off show are set to air in early 2019. Sky One has already confirmed that A League of Their Own will return for an 11th series later in the year, with comedian Romesh Ranganathan replacing Jack Whitehall as a regular panellist on the show.

Following the announcement in February, Ranganathan said: “I’d like to say I’m saddened by Jack leaving but it has essentially meant that I can become part of the show so I’m actually pretty delighted.

“I’m looking forward to joining James, Freddie and Jamie and finally adding some eye candy to the show.”

Making its debut on Sky One this week is new action comedy Bulletproof, created by and starring Kidulthood’s Noel Clarke and Top Boy’s Ashley Walters as East London police duo Bishop and Pike.

Viewers have a bit longer to wait before they get to lay eyes on Sky One’s highly anticipated thriller Curfew, which features extraordinary characters taking part in an illegal night-time street race.

The show’s impressive (and growing) cast includes Sean Bean, Adrian Lester, Aimee-Ffion Edwards and the recently-signed up Billy Zane and Miranda Richardson, to name but a few. Sky says it will hit our screens sometime in 2019.
