Five top box sets to binge watch on Sky TV

Thursday, April 12th 2018 by Steve McCaskill

Nothing to watch on TV? Well, that’s unlikely to be the case if you have Sky Box Sets. With 400 series from the US, UK and beyond there’s always something to watch on your TV or on your mobile with Sky Go.

There’s something for everybody in that selection, whether it’s drama, comedy or reality, and there are new shows added each and every week. Sky’s own channels are represented, meaning Game of Thrones, Sky Originals and other major US shows are included, but so are programmes from Comedy Central, ITV, UKTV and others.

But with so much to choose from, it can be overwhelming. So here are five new and classic TV shows from the Sky Box Sets collection to get you started.

With Homeland, British actor Damian Lewis reinvented himself as a huge television star in the US. In Billions he stars opposite Paul Giamatti as Bobby Axelrod, a hedge fund manager who has bent the rules to amass his fortune. Giamatti plays a US Attorney convinced there is more to Axe than meets the eye, but complicating matters is that his wife works at Axe’s firm.

This tale of politics, finance and corruption is made by US cable giant Showtime, so high production values are guaranteed. The first two seasons are available on Sky Box Sets and the third is currently airing on Sky Atlantic right now. And, if you have Sky Q, it’s available in Ultra High Definition (UHD).

Westworld is back for its second season this month, so what better time to watch the first? Based on a 1973 film of the same name, Westworld is about a Wild-West themed park in which guests interact with intelligent robots and can do whatever they want without consequences. Except, predictably, not everything goes to plan. An all-star cast, including Thandie Newton, Ed Harris and Anthony Hopkins, and a big budget are on show.

Scrubs was one of the most popular sitcoms of the 2000s, spanning nine seasons before it ended in 2010. Slapstick humour and real human drama combined for a show that made a a star of Zach Braff, featured a host of memorable characters, and spawned some famous inside jokes (The Todd, anyone?). All nine seasons are available to watch now.

As Nashville enters its sixth and final season on Sky Living, Sky Box Sets is giving viewers the chance to catch up with the musical drama. Starring Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere as country stars at opposite ends of their career, mixing music and soap opera-style drama. Seasons 1 – 5 are available in their entirety while every episode of season 6 broadcast to date is also available.

The Sopranos

And now for a classic. The Sopranos is regarded as one of the best television shows ever made, focusing on a gangster’s professional and personal woes, as told to his psychiatrist. Its six seasons paved the way for the big budget box sets we all take for granted these days and is still just as good as when it first aired 20 years ago.

How to get Sky Box Sets

If you take out Sky TV with the Entertainment Pack, which costs £20 a month, then Box Sets can be added for an additional £5 a month. You can also get them on NOW TV, Sky’s streaming service, with an Entertainment Pass costing £7.99 a month.
