Five top shows on Netflix to keep the kids entertained this February half term

Wednesday, February 14th 2018 by Marc Shoffman

It may seem like the kids have only just gone back to school after the Christmas holidays, but it is half term already.

There is a now a whole week of having the kids stomping round the house and demanding to be entertained.

Best of all, the weather is also pretty miserable, limiting the number of days out.

Luckily, Netflix has a great range of shows to keep the kids occupied. Here is our pick of the top Netflix shows for kids this half term.

Trolls: The Beat Goes On

Everyone’s favourite toy of the 90s made an impressive film debut in 2016, following the adventures of Poppy and friends in Troll Village.

Netflix has taken on the DreamWorks creation and turned it into a miniseries. There aren’t any of the celebrity voices of Justin Timberlake, Anna Kendrick or James Corden that appeared in the film but there are plenty of antics and capers to keep younger children glued to the screen.

Season 1 of Trolls: The Beat Goes On is already fully loaded onto Netflix with six episodes giving you more than two hours of peace and quiet.

Fantastic Mr Fox

This classic Roal Dahl story has stood the test of time. Many parents may have read it themselves or to their children. Now your kids can see the charaacters bought to life in the 2009 film directed by Wes Anderson.

George Clooney, Meryl Streep and Jason Schwartzman provide the voices as the wily Mr Fox outwits attempts by farmers to catch him.

Forget Jack and the Beanstalk, not all giants are tyrants. In-keeping with the classic Roald Dahl theme, the BFG is one that may give younger kids nightmares but is a must to tackle the bad image that giants have. This 2016 adaptation of the Roald Dahl story follows a little orphan who meets up with a kind giant who's supposed to eat her but instead protects her from his more horrible peers.

Puss in Boots

Everyone remembers the Shrek films, or maybe just the first two (there were actually seven). But one of the most memorable characters was Puss in Boots. His cute stare could fool most baddies and it even persuaded Neflix to give him his own spin-off.

The Adventures of Puss in Boots follows the feline fighter, lover and milk connoisseur on daring adventures in exotic locations in this family-friendly comedy series.

There are already six seasons of the Netflix original to keep the kids entertained.

Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse

This is a must-see if you have little girls, or boys who are equally into Barbie.

This show takes the reality concept of shows such as Real Housewives or Big Brother and applies it to Barbie and her friends.

Your kids may not get the sniping as Barbie’s friends and her wardrobe try to outwit her, but this show is funny even if it just keeps the parents entertained for the wrong reasons.
