Get a phone deal from Sky Mobile with a free HD movie on Sky Store

Tuesday, December 5th 2017 by Phil Wilkinson-Jones

It’s a great time of year to settle down and watch a movie, or even a boxset if you have the time, and it’s with that in mind that Sky Mobile is giving away a £16.99 Sky Store voucher with every phone it sells until 28 December.

It may sound like a strange amount to offer, but £16.99 is enough to ‘Buy and Keep’ one of a number of blockbuster films including Wonder Woman, Atomic Blonde and War for the Planet of the Apes on HD Digital download and Blu-ray.

You could also use the voucher to rent a film – you can rent Cars 3 for £3.49 at the moment – and keep the remaining credit for up to 12 months to spend on something else.

To get a voucher in the first place you’ll have to buy a phone. You can choose any phone from Sky Mobile’s range of Apple, Samsung and Sony handsets so if there’s a particular phone you had in mind, go for it.

If you’re not so sure, Sky has a couple of deals that may help you make up your mind.

Samsung Galaxy S8 with free Galaxy Tab A 7”

You can get a Galaxy Tab A 7" with the Samsung S8, S8+ or A5

First up is the the Samsung Galaxy S8 with a free Galaxy Tab A 7” from £30 a month with no upfront cost. Samsung’s flagship phone has a 12MP camera, 64GB of internal storage, an iris scanner for added security and Bixby, Samsung’s own version of Siri.

The Galaxy Tab A 7” runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop) and has 8GB of internal memory with room for a microSD card that can up that by a further 256GB.

As can often be the case with deals that offer a top handset for so little money, there is a downside in that for £30 a month you only get 500MB of data to play with. This also assumes that you’re an existing Sky TV customer – if you’re not, you’ll have to pay an extra tenner each month to get unlimited calls and texts.

As you go through the buying process with Sky Mobile, you’ll see that the handset cost is £25, then it’s up to you to choose how much data you’d like. So an extra £5 (£30 in total) gets you 500MB, which Sky itself describes as a bite-size portion for occasional browsing. To get a monthly allowance of 1GB, 5GB or 10GB you’ll simply have to pay more each month.

If the Samsung Galaxy S8 isn’t quite the phone for you, you can also get a free Galaxy Tab A 7” with the Samsung Galaxy S8+ or the Samsung Galaxy A5.

Sony Xperia XZ1 with free Sony h.ear on 2 wireless headphones

The Sony XZ1 comes with a free pair of wireless headphones

Sky is also offering the Sony Xperia XZ1, which features a 19MP camera and toughened Gorilla Glass, for £25 a month with 500MB of data included as well as a free pair of Sony h.ear on 2 wireless headphones worth £200.

For an extra couple of quid each month you could instead have the Xperia XZ Premium on the same contract and still get the free headphones. Again, with Sky you choose the handset you want then the amount of data, so if 500MB isn’t enough you’ll be able to choose a bigger plan.

The Sony h.ear on 2 headphones let you control exactly what you hear with noise cancelling technology and an ambient sound mode as well as a touch sensor control panel for easy operation. You can also fine-tune your sound using a companion app.

With both of these deals, the prices we've mentioned are for Sky's Swap24 plan, a 30-month contract in which you can upgrade your phone for a new one every two years. When you upgrade, you enter into a new 30-month contract.

If you don't mind paying a bit more each month, Sky also has a Swap12 plan. This is a 24-month contract that allows you to upgrade your phone every 12 months.
