Get an iPhone 7 with 4GB of data for £40 a month with O2 deal

Wednesday, February 14th 2018 by Phil Wilkinson-Jones

You don’t necessarily need the very latest Apple handset to benefit from the speed and reliability of an iPhone – and we’ve found a deal from O2 that may just tempt you.

Until 21 March, the provider is offering the iPhone 7 with 4GB of data for £40 a month.

Despite Apple having to apologise after admitting to slowing down some older iPhone models, the iPhone 7 remains a popular handset. And it’s easy to see why.

For quite a bit less than you’d pay for an iPhone 8 or iPhone X you can get yours hands on a powerful smartphone with a 12MP camera on the back and a 7MP “FaceTime HD” camera on the front.

A powerful chip means it’s twice as fast as the iPhone 6 and a stereo speaker system makes it twice as loud as its predecessor, too.

The iPhone 7 does have a modest 4.7 inch screen so if that’s not going to be enough you may want to consider the iPhone 7 Plus instead.

Free wi-fi and O2 Priority

This deal from O2 puts you on a two-year contract for the duration of which you will pay £40 a month as well as a £19.99 upfront fee. For that, you’ll get 4GB of data as well as unlimited texts and calls.

You’ll also get access to free O2 wi-fi so you can save your data even when you’re out and about. O2 says it has more than 15,000 wi-fi hotspots across the UK and that your phone will connect automatically to about 7,000 of them if the hotspot if faster than your 3G or 4G connection.

To connect to any of the other 8,000 or so wi-fi hotspots you’ll have to do so manually, which means selecting the O2 Wifi network and registering.

An an O2 customer, you’ll also get all the benefits of O2 Priority, which include the chance to buy concert tickets before anyone else, exclusive offers, freebies and competitions.

This O2 deal stacks up pretty well against EE, which is asking £43 a month for its 4GB Essential plan plus a hefty £50 upfront fee. You do get free access to the BT Sport app from EE, but only for three months after which you’ll have to choose whether to keep it for an extra £5 a month.

If you like the look for the iPhone 7 but these monthly costs and upfront fees are just a bit out of your reach, its worth taking a look at Virgin Mobile.

Virgin will give you the phone plus 4GB of data, 1,500 minutes and unlimited texts for £23 a month on a three-year contract, with no upfront fee.

And it’s not like there’s no added extras, as you get to keep any leftover data to use the following month and you get data-free messaging on three of the most popular messaging apps – WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Twitter.

If three years sounds like a long time to lock yourself into a contract, the same deal over two years will set you back £32.50 a month, still with nothing to pay upfront.
