Gigaclear connects two more Oxfordshire communities to reach new milestone
Gigaclear is set to reach a milestone as it rolls out ultrafast broadband in rural Oxfordshire.
More than 10,000 premises in the most remote parts of the county will have access to gigabit speeds when the rollout reaches the final two communites – Warborough and Shillingford, and Shipton-on-Cherwell.
Gigaclear’s fibre to the premises (FTTP) network now connects more than 40 Oxfordshire villages.
Households and businesses can choose between a standard 1Gbps service and a ‘special order’ 5Gbps connection.
Residents can download a three-hour HD feature film in less than a minute, download 23 songs in 1.6 seconds and upload 200 photos in less than 9 seconds.
Businesses can benefit from broadband speeds up to 30 times faster than those available in city centres, Gigaclear said.
The rollout is almost entirely a result of Gigaclear’s commercial investment, with the company requiring no public subsidy.
Gigaclear CEO Matthew Hare said: “Oxfordshire homes and businesses have dived head first into the information revolution.
“New ways of working, of doing business, learning, communicating and playing are now available to over 10,000 homes and businesses through the Gigaclear ultrafast fibre network, where the customer can choose the speed they want and it is as fast to upload a file as it is to download it.
“From our first network build in Appleton in 2012 to our most recent in Shillingford, the FTTP technology means our customers have a broadband infrastructure that will not need updating for the foreseeable future.
“The county’s homes and businesses on the Gigaclear network benefit from a future-proof world-class internet connection.”
Appleton was the first community to go live in 2012, followed by Beckley in 2014.
Graham Rose, an Appleton resident and one of the original broadband champions for the area, has been using the Gigaclear service for nearly four years.
He said: “My wife and I often reflect on what life was like before the Gigaclear solution. It has become a vital utility service and it has been very reliable.
“Our family often visit and can all be on their devices at the same time and achieve excellent speeds. Similarly, our business friends who visit from the UK and overseas are always envious.
“We are very happy with the service, it provides a long-term, financially sound solution to the infuriatingly slow broadband offering we previously had.”
