ID Mobile give away 50% of extra data with SIM-only deal
With all the new phone releases boasting exciting features, it’s very tempting to get caught up in a new phone contract that will keep your wallet locked into a loop of needless spending for at least 24 months.
Once you’ve got your hands on a quality smartphone you don’t need to rush to upgrade to a new phone contract. Apple is quite good at updating the operating systems across its range of handsets, so as long as you’re still happy with the hardware you can get a few years usage out of it.
Android can be a little slower at rolling out new software updates, but once you’ve got a good phone you can still rely on some longevity.
To make the most of your phone, once your pay-monthly contract is over you can invest in a SIM-only deal, which gives you more flexibility and it’s kinder on your wallet too.
SIM-only deals under £5
Carphone Warehouse’s mobile network, iD Mobile, has some deals on its 30-day rolling contracts.
There’s a special offer on a the moment, giving away 50% extra data. For a fiver a month you can get 1.5GB of data with 5,000 texts and 250 minutes.
If you’re more of a talker than a browser, iD Mobile has a £3.99 a month plan which gives you just 500MB for the month but you’ll have 500 minutes and 5,000 texts which isn’t too shabby seeing as you’d struggle to get a Big Mac for this price.
Virgin Mobile also has a SIM-only deal for £5 a month. In its flash sale, that lasts up until midnight on Tuesday 20 March, you can get 1GB of data with 1,000 minutes and unlimited texts.
Unlike iD Mobile’s offering, this deal spans a 12-month contract. One feature that might attract you over to Virgin’s side is the free data exclusively for messaging on WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Twitter. If this doesn’t do it for you, there’s also the chance to rollover any data that you don’t use to the next month’s tariff.
Plusnet mobile offers a plan that is slightly more than a fiver. By paying £6 a month you can get 500MB of data, 500 texts and 250 minutes. It’s cheap but not quite as good value so you may be better sticking to iD Mobile or Virgin Mobile.
