Idris Elba set to create a revamp of The Hunchback of Notre Dame for Netflix
He may have been busy attending the Royal Wedding recently but it’s back to the grindstone for Idris Elba who is set to star, direct and produce a contemporary adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame for Netflix.
It will take the form of a Netflix Original feature film retelling Victor Hugo’s classic novel. Netflix says Elba’s modern version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame “will be a sonic and musical experience for which Elba will also produce the music.”
Netflix has been a bit hush hush about whether or not production is underway but we do know the screenplay will be written by Michael Mitnick (The Current War) and alongside the British actor and director, it will be produced by Fred Berger (La La Land) and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Midnight Special) for Automatik and Ana Garanito for Elba’s Green Door shingle.
We don’t know which part Idris Elba will play but we’re (I'm) already excited. This could be the gift you never thought you needed. Idris Elba in tights? Thank you very much, Netflix, this has cemented you on our Christmas list.
If you’re eager to get Idris Elba on your screen as soon as possible, you can catch him on Sky One, in a series he also stars in, produces and directs. It’s called In The Long Run and puts a comedic twist on Idris Elba’s childhood memories of growing up in East London in the 1980s.
