'Innovative approach' brings ultrafast broadband to Bolesworth Estate
A country estate in Cheshire now has access to ultrafast broadband after being “overlooked by providers for years”.
Bolesworth Estate, which contains a number of residential and business properties as well as Bolesworth Castle, had suffered for years with a lack of broadband infrastructure.
But an innovative wireless network is now in place, built and part-funded by Cheshire-based ITS Technology Group.
The network has even been rolled out across other parts of South Cheshire, giving a number of rural areas access to high-speed internet.
Bolesworth’s estate manager Matthew Morris said: “We struggled to find a service provider that would be an alternative to the BT Openreach deadlock.
“The distance from the exchange was one of our key challenges. Although we had considered other service providers, it was ITS that had the ability to deliver a commercial and domestic model so we could provide an inclusive solution.
“This innovative approach to connectivity has enabled some businesses and residents to achieve further savings by removing their BT landline. High speed connectivity essential to the long term viability of rural communities.”
ITS said it had to carry out detailed site surveys because of the challenging topography of the estate, but that the actual rollout went “swiftly and smoothly”.
'Beyond the boundaries'
Roy Shelton, chief executive of ITS, said: “We worked hard to find a way to successfully deliver a viable yet affordable service to the area which has been overlooked by many providers for years.
“Our innovative approach involved looking beyond the boundaries of the estate in order to help deliver high-speed connectivity to the wider area, therefore enabling us to provide the community with the service they so desired.”
Last month, ITS agreed a deal with Herefordshire Council to supply ultrafast fibre broadband to a business park in Hereford.
Fibre to the premises infrastructure will be installed at Skylon Park on the Rotherwas Industrial Estate, giving companies access to broadband packages ranging from 30Mbps to 1Gbps.
Councillor Tony Johnson, leader of Herefordshire Council, said: “I’m delighted we’re bringing best in class fibre connectivity to the [Enterprise] Zone.
“This will really help the Zone’s competitiveness in attracting business investment.”
