KCOM expands full fibre network in east Hull

Friday, June 30th 2017 by Phil Wilkinson-Jones

KCOM has announced details of the next stage of its ultrafast broadband rollout.

The Hull-based provider is currently rolling out fibre to the premises (FTTP) broadband across the city as part of a £60m network investment.

By the end of 2017, its fibre broadband service Lightstream will be available to at least 150,000 premises – around 75% of its overall network in Hull and East Yorkshire.

KCOM said residents in the Longhill estate in east Hull can order Lightstream from this week and get access to download speeds of 250Mbps. Business customers can access speeds up to 1Gbps.

The service will be available in the James Reckitt Avenue, Preston Road and Dunscombe Park areas from 7 July and in Bilton from 18 July.

Parts of Sutton, including College Street and Tweendykes Road, will go live from 1 August and the Southcoats Lane, Portobello Street and Aberdeen Street areas will be able to order Lightstream from early September.

Cathy Phillips, KCOM’s chief marketing officer, said: “We are delighted to be able to announce the next stage of our Lightstream rollout, which will bring the benefits of ultrafast broadband to thousands of homes in east Hull.

“Demand for Lightstream has been incredible and we are connecting a new customer every 20 minutes, which truly cements Hull’s growing reputation as one of the UK’s digital hotspots.

“KCOM’s significant financial investment in its fibre network is now paying dividends for the people and businesses of Hull. It means people will be able to enjoy faster streaming, surfing, downloading and gaming at home while businesses will be able to work faster and smarter.

“As we accelerate our rollout of Lightstream across all of Hull, we are putting in place the digital infrastructure and capability to meet the demands of being a forward-looking, 21st century city.”
