Marvel's Luke Cage returns to Netflix for series 2

Friday, May 25th 2018 by Phil Wilkinson-Jones

Marvel’s Luke Cage returns to the streaming service for a second series next month – and it appears Harlem’s favourite hero has his hands full this time around.

A trailer for season two shows the bulletproof strongman free from prison and enjoying his reputation in Harlem.

There’s no sign of Diamondback (Erik LaRay Harvey) in the trailer but we do get a glimpse of Bushmaster, a new villain played by Mustafa Shakir, who it appears is more than capable of holding his own in a fist fight with Luke.

SImone Missick returns as Detective Misty Knight, sporting a shiny new bionic arm (courtesy of Rand Enterprises) following the events of The Defenders, as does Alfre Woodard as Councilwoman Mariah Dillard and Theo Rossi as hitman Shades.

All 13 episodes of Luke Cage series two will drop on 22 June but for now, check out the trailer.

Daredevil series 3

Later this year, Marvel fans can look forward to a third series of the show that kicked off this whole superhero thing as far as Netflix is concerned – Daredevil.

Jessica Jones, which returned for a second series in March, has also been renewed for a third term although there’s no word yet on when exactly that will be – it’s likely that we’ll get a second series of the disappointing Iron Fist and maybe even another installment of The Defenders before we get to head back to Alias Investigations.

In the meantime, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding not only on Netflix and in cinemas but across other channels, too.

Teen drama Runaways made its UK debut on SyFy last month, telling the story of six teenagers who don’t get along that well but must unite against a common enemy – their parents, who happen to be a team of super-villains.

Amazon Prime Video has also got in on the act by securing the UK rights to Cloak & Dagger, a Marvel show co-produced by ABC that follows teenagers Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) as they discover newly acquired superpowers.

Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness but the young heroes soon discover that their powers are stronger together.
