New customers make TalkTalk the UK's third biggest TV provider
TalkTalk has gained more than a million broadband, TV and mobile customers in the past 12 months.
It is now the UK’s third largest TV provider with 1.4m customers, behind Sky and Virgin Media.
The company has reported an increasing number of customers choosing bundled phone, broadband, TV and mobile packages known as ‘quad play’.
TalkTalk attributes some of its success to its mobile business, calling it “a significant driver of growth”.
Around 12% of TalkTalk’s customers now take mobile, with 66,000 joining in the first three months of 2015.
In the 12 months up to March 2015, TalkTalk gained a total of 180,000 new mobile customers.
Last month, it launched what it claimed was Britain’s lowest-priced unlimited SIM-only plan at £12 a month and back in December it added a free SIM with 100 minutes, 250 texts and 200MB of data a month, worth £90, to its Plus TV, broadband and calls package.
TalkTalk Mobile took a 13% market share of new SIM-only connections in March and is on track to take a 20% share in May.
TalkTalk has added 16 new channels to its TV offering in the past year and now more than a third of customers take TV, phone and broadband.
It has also announced that Game of Thrones – HBO’s most popular show to date – will be available on TalkTalk TV from June.
Customers will able to buy full series or individual episodes from seasons 1-4. They will also be able to stream their purchased episodes on TalkTalk’s TV2Go app.
Tristia Harrison, managing director, TalkTalk Consumer, said: “It’s exciting to see the growing demand for quad-play.
“Not only are savvy shoppers making considerable reductions to their household bills by bundling their services with TalkTalk, they’re also getting some of the best TV and mobile deals.
“Our mission is to make Britain better off, that’s why we’re always finding new ways to constantly deliver for our customers.
“It’s fantastic to see that over the last year so many more families across the UK have started to benefit from our efforts.”
TalkTalk added 47,000 phone and broadband customers in the first three months of 2015, 83,000 fibre broadband customers and 82,000 TV customers.
It also completed a number of acquisitions including Tesco broadband and blinkbox.
Chief executive Dido Harding said: “British consumers and businesses increasingly appreciate TalkTalk’s value for money products, and we are focused on improving our customers’ experience still further and growing our already flourishing quad play business.
“We believe firmly that competition will drive the innovation and investment that Britain needs in this essential infrastructure.”
She urged “the respective regulatory bodies currently reviewing the various mergers and industry structure” to put strong competition at the heart of their decisions.
