ThePhoneCloud launches smartphone for kids to keep them safe online

Thursday, March 22nd 2018 by Oprah Flash

Has your child been begging you for a smartphone? We understand your reluctance, the more popular the web and social media become, the more vigilant you have to be with what you allow your children to access online.

A new smartphone released by UK-based children’s smartphone provider, ThePhoneCloud, can help you do just that.

The PX1 is purposely built for users aged 8-12 and contains software that allows parents to monitor online activity to prevent your children from accessing inappropriate content and online bullying.

It’s an Android phone but unlike the mobiles you may be used to. The PX1 blocks more than 3.9 million websites that may contain violent, sexual, gambling or malware content.

It’s not just the internet that can pose a danger to your kids, you also have to be vigilant with texts and WhatsApp messages.

Scans WhatsApp and auto-deletes images

To tackle this, the PX1 has 1,000 keyword filters that scan SMS messages and WhatsApp for inappropriate messages. You can add your own keywords to the list. The software is also built to monitor any images sent to or from the phone.

If anything untoward gets picked up, the PX1 will send a text to your phone straight away. Any indecent images will automatically be deleted.

With a 5.5-inch display, 8GB camera and 32GB of internal storage, the phone has a similar spec to the average budget to mid-range phone that you would consider buying for yourself. It comes in black, rose gold and gold.

Keeping kids safe online is not a new movement. Every February, internet and mobile providers celebrate Safer Internet Day to raise awareness and offer practical advice on digital resilience.

Carphone Warehouse deal from £12.99 a month

This could be the first time you’re hearing about ThePhoneCloud and that’s okay, there is nothing wrong with staying within your comfort zone and sticking with a mobile provider your are more more familiar with.

Carphone Warehouse offers a smartphone option that is designed specifically for kids. It’s called Monqi and has a unique operating system with the sole purpose of giving kids something that resembles the phone you’re reading this on right now, while keeping them safe and giving you full control.

Just like your phone, the Monqi connects to the internet, downloads apps and has a built in camera. It may not be as hi-tech as your handset but it has a 5-inch HD display, 13MP camera and 8GB of internal storage.

The most attractive feature of the Monqi is that you are in complete control. You can monitor what they watch, which games they play and where they wonder to when browsing the net.

Deals start at £12.99 a month with nothing to pay upfront on the iD network. Your child will have 500MB of data with 250 minutes and 5,000 texts to use each month. This isn’t a large amount of data but shouldn't be a problem if they’ll be predominately connected to the wi-fi.
