NOW TV launches UK’s cheapest TV Smart Stick

Friday, January 26th 2018 by Oprah Flash

It’s getting easier and cheaper to stream Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead straight from your telly as Sky has announced plans to launch a NOW TV Smart Stick for just £14.99.

From next month the portable plug-and-play device goes on sale and Sky claims it’s the cheapest TV smart stick in the UK. As bold as the claim my be, at the moment Sky is right. The Chromecast created by Google retails at £30 (double the price) and an Amazon Fire TV stick is £39.99.

NOW TV is a streaming service that lets you pick and mix content from Sky TV without getting sucked into a contract. You can choose from either an Entertainment Pass (£7.99), Kids Pass (£2.99), Sky Cinema Pass (£9.99) or a Sky Sports Pass (£33.99) depending on what takes your fancy that month.

The NOW TV Smart Stick, powered by Roku, resembles an old-school USB memory stick in size and shape and comes with a remote. The remote has built-in Voice Search technology to make it quicker to find the show you’re looking for. Plus you can pause live TV on any of the channels including Sky Sports, FOX, Comedy Central and Sky Atlantic.

Less than £20 for a Smart TV Stick and Entertainment Pass

The Smart TV Stick by itself costs £14.99 or you can bundle it up with a two-month NOW TV Entertainment Pass for £19.99. This option gives you access to 11 of Sky’s most popular channels and more than 300 box sets.

Alternatively you can get the NOW TV Smart Stick with a one-month Sky Cinema Pass for £19.99, or a one-month Sky Sports Pass for £29.99.

If you were hoping to watch Netflix on the new device you will be disappointed as NOW TV products don’t support the service. However you can still download apps like YouTube, VEVO and Sky News.

That’s not it for new features from NOW TV, Sky says there are plans in the pipeline to roll out downloads to the NOW TV app across mobile devices for its kids, entertainment and cinema passes, starting with the Kids Pass this spring. This will mean you can watch your favourite shows on the go.

By the end of the year NOW TV plans to introduce the option of streaming NOW TV both live and on demand in full HD, with content from premium channels including Sky Atlantic, Sky One and Sky Sports.

It’s not just telly-watchers who have something to look forward to, we’ve got some interesting news for those looking for a new broadband package too.

As part of its no-strings offering, NOW TV has said new broadband customers can soon look forward to buying broadband as a standalone contract-free service, without the need to bundle it with a NOW TV Pass.

NOW Broadband will launch in the next Wednesday (31 January) with prices starting from £18 for basic broadband up to 17Mbps.
