NOW TV to launch new streaming box and Sky Sports monthly pass
NOW TV has announced it is launching a monthly Sky Sports pass and a new streaming box in August.
The month pass will give customers access to all seven Sky Sports channels for £31.99 and will be available in time for the kick-off of the new football season.
It follows the launch of a £6.99 day pass and a £10.99 week pass for Sky Sports on NOW TV.
A new NOW TV box will go on sale in August for £14.99 and will support both a wired and wireless connection, as well as being five times faster than the original box.
The streaming service is also rolling out improvements to its user interface for NOW TV-supported devices, making it quicker and easier for customers to find the content they want to watch.
An improved search function is being launched later this year as well as updates to let customers easily tag, save and find their favourite shows, and play next episodes automatically.
Sky’s chief marketing and digital officer Stephen van Rooyen said the new products and services will help build on the considerable momentum the service has created since it launched three years ago.
Mr van Rooyen was speaking at the Future of Broadcasting Conference in London yesterday (Tuesday 16 June).
He said Sky had learned a lot about NOW TV customers it launched the service in July 2012.
NOW TV customers do not cross over with the Sky base, as 90% had never considered Sky before signing up, he said.
Users signed up to NOW TV’s entertainment pass watch more than five hours a week, while movies pass customers watch almost six hours of movies each week.
Almost 40% of NOW TV customers also subscribe to Netflix and around 20% also use Amazon Prime to stream content, said Mr van Rooyen.
He added: “NOW TV has established real momentum since it launched nearly three years ago.
“The acceleration in our customer growth shows NOW TV is attracting customers in a way that is complementary, not at odds, with the Sky TV service.
“As with the Sky platform we are committed to constant improvement so we can produce the best experience for customers as well as developing exciting new services and features for them to enjoy.”
