O2 to roll out free Wi-Fi to 1,600 pubs and restaurants
A new deal has been struck between O2 and Mitchells & Butlers.
UK communications services provider O2 has announced plans to roll out free Wi-Fi access to 1,600 pubs and restaurants across the country over the next three years.
After signing a new agreement with Mitchells & Butlers, O2 will deliver internet services to the company's 13 brands, including Harvester, Vintage Inns, Browns, All Bar One and Toby Carvery.
Gavin Franks, managing director of O2 Wifi, said: "The hope is that users of O2 Wifi ... will now begin to enjoy the full, unrestrained potential of what Wi-Fi as a technology can offer."
He added that the business strategy for the firm is to show fresh thinking and this is why the partnership with Mitchells & Butlers is such an exciting prospect.
The news follows a recent announcement by O2 of the creation of Europe's largest free Wi-Fi zone in Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.
Open to visitors and residents alike, the service will run at no cost to the local councils or taxpayer and aims to ensure the millions of people who explore these historic and cultural sites each year have the best online experience possible.
