O2 Wifi reaches milestone as six millionth customer signs up
Six million customers are now registered to access O2 Wifi.
O2 Wifi has hit a major milestone, with the six millionth customer signing up to the service since its launch two years ago.
More than five million of these subscribers joined O2 Wifi in the past year, making it the UK's fastest-growing Wi-Fi network in terms of upturn in registered users.
The provider has secured deals with a string of major high street brands - including McDonald's, Debenhams and Costa Coffee - since hitting the market, as well as public venues like Bluewater shopping centre, Twickenham Stadium and The O2.
According to O2's Wifi Britain report, more than one-third of Brits believe retail businesses that offer free wireless internet access are more in touch with shoppers than their competitors, while almost one in four views it as "great marketing".
Some 58 per cent of respondents said they connect while out shopping, with one-fifth explaining they use the service to compare prices online and make sure they are getting the best deal.
Gavin Franks, managing director of O2 Wifi, commented: "Going past six million customers is a significant landmark milestone for us as we move into becoming a trusted provider of digital services."
