Patrick Melrose comes to Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in May
Since he no longer solves crime as Sherlock Holmes, you may have missed your weekly dose of Benedict Cumberbatch’s wily charm.
The Oscar nominee and Emmy winner has been a busy bee lately, while he reprises his role as Dr Stephen Strange in Avengers: Infinity War (in cinemas 26 April), he has also brought to life a brand new character, Patrick Melrose.
We won’t have to go to the cinema to see this, as the five-part Sky Original Production is airing on Sunday 13 May at 9pm on Sky Atlantic and will be available on demand as well as streaming on NOW TV.
Patrick Melrose is based on the acclaimed semi-autobiographical novels by Edward St Aubyn. The hour-long episodes depict every step of Melrose’s raw journey through life and the comedic view the protagonist develops along the way.
It starts with a heartbreakingly traumatic childhood, tumbles through to an adulthood plagued by substance abuse and, ultimately ends with Melrose’s hilarious road to recovery. The saga is subversive and savage, mixed in with good old fashioned humour.
Alongside Cumberbatch you may recognise some silver screen favourites such as Hugo Weaving (The Matrix trilogy), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Anna Madeley (The Crown), Blythe Danner (Meet the Fockers) and Allison Williams (Girls).
All five episodes were written for television adaptation by BAFTA Award nominee David Nicholls (Far from the Madding Crowd, One Day) and directed by Edward Berger(Deutschland 83, Jack).
Cumberbatch is not just a talented actor, for this series he has turned his hand to producing. His creative musings are also executive produced by Michael Jackson - not the King of Pop - and Rachael Horovitz.
