Plusnet reduces price of unlimited broadband and fibre deals

Wednesday, November 15th 2017 by Phil Wilkinson-Jones

Plusnet has reduced the price of its basic broadband by £1 and the price of fibre broadband by £2 as Black Friday looms large on the horizon.

Unlimited broadband giving you speeds up to 17Mbps is now £18.99 a month for 18 months with no activation fee and Plusnet has decided to keep offering £50 cashback as an added incentive, at least until next Tuesday (21 November).

It may only be a small reduction in terms of the monthly fee but it makes this deal one of the cheapest on the market, coming in at a penny less than Post Office Broadband and 50p more than Origin but with the bonus of that £50 cashback offer.

In fact, there are only two cheaper broadband deals that we know of – and both require you to pay a set-up fee. Direct Save’s Broadband Unlimited Plus and calls is £17.95 a month plus an £8.95 set up fee, while Sky Unlimited Broadband is £18 a month with a £19.95 set up fee and a £50 prepaid Mastercard.

Plusnet’s unlimited fibre broadband packages, which offers speeds up to 38Mbps and generally a more stable connection, is £22.99 a month for 18 months and until 28 November you won’t have to pay the usual £25 activation fee.

This is among the lowest priced fibre deals out there and with no set-up cost is comfortably ahead of consistently cheap providers including Origin, Post Office and TalkTalk.

The UK’s best-priced unlimited fibre broadband by some distance is Vodafone’s Unlimited Fibre 38 package, which you can currently get for £20 a month and no upfront fee if you sign up by 27 November.

The only other way to get fibre broadband for £20 a month is to go with Sky’s capped fibre broadband package, which offers the same speeds for the same price as Vodafone but will charge you extra if you go over the 25GB monthly usage limit.

Sky’s deal comes with a £50 prepaid Mastercard but there is a £29.95 set up fee.

If you’re looking for the fastest speeds and can’t get Virgin Media where you live, Plusnet’s top fibre package gives you up to 76Mbps and is currently £29.99 a month for 18 months, plus a £25 activation fee.

This is roughly in line with a number of other providers that use the national broadband network run by Openreach.
